Data Backup and Recovery

Responsible Data Practices

Here at Nerd Base One, your data is a priority. In many cases the first thing we do is save a system imge so if in case anything goes wrong, what we have is THE CONDITION it came in; however that also means in the event of drive corruption, the data we get might also be corrupted. We are strong advocates for users managing their own data, but we know that can be hard, so we offer data backup solutions to our Nerd Base Cloud. If you want to have your own personal cloud, GREAT, you can back up your cloud, to our cloud, so if your systems ever act up, we can recover your data for you, avoiding catastrophic data loss.

you should back up your data at least weekly, many do it daily, but with the advent of cloud services many things update & catch file changes immediately & automatically, set it up once & it's on auto pilot.

Local backups store data on physical devices you control (external drives, NAS), offering faster recovery but vulnerability to physical damage; you can drop external hard drives & flash storage is to be considered temporary, never store important data ONLY on flash storage. Cloud backups store data on remote servers, providing protection from local disasters but requiring internet connectivity for restoration. With a "Local Cloud" you can have a server at your home or business for both layers of reliability & disconnected storage; a home server can let you back up all your phones & computer data to it, your music, photo, & video collection & any important documents like resume's & tax data.

Trustworthy data providers use encryption for data in transit and at rest, offer multi-factor authentication, and maintain secure data centers. It's important to research a provider's security certifications, encryption standards, and privacy policies. For example with a Local Cloud nobody can train their AI on your data. Do you really think Bezos & Zuck don't train their AI on your data?

This depends on your data volume and retention needs. Calculate your current data size, factor in growth (typically 15-25% annually), and consider how long you need to keep historical versions. Many services offer scalable options. Nerd Base One offers 100 GB per $1

Recovery time varies based on data volume, connection speed, and service level. Ask potential providers about their recovery time objectives (RTOs), whether they offer expedited recovery options (like physical drive shipping), and test the recovery process before an actual emergency.

At Nerd Base One - all of our local south Texas clients can enjoy rapid deployment of data needs in the event of a data emergency.

You can back up your server to our Nerd Base One servers so if in the event your server dies, NO IT DIDN'T. Let us be your off-site backup.  We also have our own off-site backup with heavy internet pipes for data redundancy.

Nerd Base One can build you a low-cost server to fit your needs.  It doesn't have to be a rack tower, it can be a super mini pc that just has a big drive in it.  We offer Cookie Cutter tiered solutions, or you can opt for a more custom approach, because we make them SIMPLE

Standard Flat-Rate data backups in the Nerd Base One shop run $50

  • we can move your data back onto your device
  • we can copy it to your server
  • we can copy it to our Nerd Base One storage you have with us
  • sometimes we can CLONE your drive, so all your data, programs, etc all go onto the new (often bigger) drive

If you need on-site service or sensitive data 1-on-1 service, the regular hourly rate is $100/hr

we can also run un-delete software to try to recover formatted, lost, corrupted, or deleted files, but sometimes our hands are tied.  We do however partner with Flashback Data & Rossman Repairs & can facilitate the torch-pass to them for higher level sorcery.

If it's not a time sensitive matter, drop it off with us & let the machine do the math to grab your stuff.

With a cloud backup solution, you get the benefit of data retention policies, that let you un-delete your stuff from your backup's track, basically.
